BAR ILAN UNIVERSITY

Sol Efroni is the group leader of the System’s Biomedicine Lab at Bar Ilan University, Tel Aviv, Israel. One main focus of his and his group’s research is to study transcriptional network alterations that are the core difference between a healthy tissue and a sick tissue. His research utilizes genome-wide, high-throughput analyses platforms and is aimed to cope with this genome-wide, network entangled, complexity.

BAR ILAN UNIVERSITY IN THE MODICELL PROJECT:

Sol Efroni has been significantly contributing to the development and advancement of reactive animation (RA) and its application in systems biology. Reactive animation is a computational approach for simulating complex biological systems, which facilitates the in silico modelling of complex biological systems. One layer is a bottom-up approach integrating discrete multilevel experimental data of the interacting cells and molecules. The second layer is a front-end visualization of the simulation, capable of real time interactive manipulation of the simulated biological objects. RA allows the experimenter to intervene mid-simulation and thus will allow researchers in MODICELL to generate new hypotheses for cellular and molecular interactions which will be tested in the wet-labs of the collaborators. In turn, the collaborating laboratories will supply the platform of RA with the information of their experiments. The close interaction of in silico modeling and wet-lab experimentation will enforce the progress excted to be made by MODICELL. .
